What is Poeta?
Poeta is a minimalist platform for writers to share their creative work and connect with readers. Whether you write poetry, short prose, or reflections, Poeta provides a clean, distraction-free space to publish and discover writing.
How It Works
Creating an Account
Sign up with your email to create your account. Choose a unique username that will become your profile URL (poeta.co/yourusername). You can customize your profile with a display name, bio, profile picture, and an external link.
Writing & Publishing
Click the note icon (📄) in the header to create a new post. Each post includes:
- Title: Give your work a name
- Content: Your poem, prose, or writing
- Signature: How you want to sign your work (optional)
- Date & Time: When you wrote it (defaults to now)
- Photos: Add up to 4 images to accompany your writing (optional)
Your posts are published immediately and appear on your profile. You can edit or delete your posts at any time.
Your Feed
The home page shows your personalized feed - posts from writers you're reading. Posts are organized by date, showing the last 7 days of activity. Click any post to expand and read the full content.
Following Writers (Reading List)
When you visit another writer's profile, you'll see a "Read" button. Click it to add them to your reading list. Their posts will then appear in your feed. You can view your full reading list and your readers from your profile page.
Discovering Writers
Use the search icon (🔍) to find writers by username. The search shows suggestions as you type, along with each writer's post count and reader/reading stats.
View Counts
Each post tracks how many times it's been viewed. When someone expands your post to read it, the view count increases. This helps you see which pieces resonate with readers.
Customization
Personalize your reading experience:
- Theme: Toggle between light and dark mode (🌙/☀️)
- Font: Choose between Sans, Serif, or Mono fonts in your settings
Books
A post is one piece, published today. A book is a manuscript you assemble over time and put on paper. The book editor lives at /books and is available to Writer members.
A separate writing surface
The book editor is its own distraction-free space, not a view of your feed. Pages can be poems you've already published, work you've never posted anywhere, a dedication, or a page left deliberately blank. Nothing you write in a book is published to your profile, and nothing on your profile appears in a book unless you put it there.
Pulling in your poems
You can pull any poem you've published into a book. It arrives as a copy, free to edit, retitle, or reshape for the page. Editing it in the book never changes the published post, and editing the post never reaches back into the book. A manuscript should be allowed to differ from the feed.
Typography and page design
Every page can be set independently, or styled all at once:
- Trim size: real book dimensions, including the standard KDP paperback and hardcover sizes
- Margins: separate inside (gutter), outside, top, and bottom, laid out as a bound book with the gutter alternating between left and right pages
- Type: font, size, line height, letter spacing, alignment, italic and bold
- Images: placed on the page alongside your writing
- Bleed: for artwork that runs off the edge of the paper
Printing
Books print three ways, depending on what you're doing:
- Trim size: pages at their true finished dimensions, for a print shop or for uploading to a print-on-demand service
- Printer size: each page centered on US Letter with cut marks, so you can print and trim a proof at home
- Printer test sheet: one double-sided page that checks your printer's alignment before you commit a whole manuscript to paper
In your print dialog, choose Save as PDF rather than printing directly if you want a file to send elsewhere.
Philosophy
Poeta is designed to be simple and focused. There are no likes, comments, or algorithms. Just writing and reading. We believe good writing speaks for itself, and meaningful connections happen naturally when you remove the noise.
